App Help

Welcome to the Keep Abs Interesting (K Abs I) application help page. Here we explain how the app works. When the K Abs I is first launched you start at the “Main Workout” view.

The “Main Workout” view has the following functionality:
  • Workout Settings: here you will find your current workout definition. The exercise count is the number of different core exercises you will do in a workout, the default value is 5. The exercise time is the time, in seconds, to complete each exercise in the workout. The rest time is the number of seconds you have to rest between each exercise in the workout.
  • Workout / Define WO / Exercise toggle buttons: these buttons switch between three different views: Main Workout, Define Workout, Exercises. The Main Workout view is where we are now. The Define Workout view is where you set your exercise count per workout, exercise time, and your rest time. Use the slide bar, the “Count / Exerc. Time / Rest Time” toggle buttons, and the “Save Setting” button to change your workout settings. The Exercise view lists all 26 core exercises in the K Abs I app. In this view you can tag exercises as “Don't Use” and they will not be included in apps proprietary randomization algorithm for building your workouts. This view also allows you to access detailed expert instructions and a demonstration video on each exercise for learning how to do them correctly. Accessing the exercise instructions and video requires a data connection. The same exercise instructions and videos can also be found at the K Abs I support website at http://absapp.blogspot.com.
  • Go To Workout button: This button takes you to the Workout view. This is where the app uses its proprietary algorithm to generate your workout. The Workout View then guides you through your workout, more on this view later.
  • K Abs I Settings button: This button will take you to the sound, vibrate, and shake settings of the app. The sound settings include voice prompts, beeps, or no sound to guide your through your workout, this view is where you choose your sound setting. Vibration prompts are available to guide you through your workout, this view also allows you to turn vibration prompts on or off. During a workout you can shake your iPhone / iPad / iPod to skip the current exercise and go to the next exercise. This view allows you to turn the shake functionality on or off.
  • Ab Workout Record button: This button takes you to the Workout Record view. This view shows all your past workouts and there statistics.
  • Info button (bottom left corner): This button takes you to “Help” and “Starting Out” instructions. “Help” is what you are reading now. “Starting Out” provides some expert guidance on defining your workout.

From the Main Workout view, pressing the “Go To Workout” button will take you the Workout view. The Workout view is where you will be spending the majority of your time when using the K Abs I app.

When the view appears, it will display the first exercise in your workout for instance “First Up: In & Outs.” To start your workout press the “Start” button. After pressing the Start button, the current exercise you are doing will be displayed and the exercise timer will start. You won't know the next exercise until the rest time timer starts before the next exercise or, in cases where you set the rest time to zero, right before the exercise timer starts for that exercise. This feature of the app is the surprise element, it keeps you and your core muscles guessing. With the app's sound setting at “Human” you get the following voice prompts during the workout:
  • Each exercise is verbally announced before the exercise timer starts
  • A verbal “GO!” is sounded at the start of the exercise timer
  • With only 10 seconds left in the exercise, 1 of 9 stored encouraging phrases is sounded to keep you motivated until the last second of the exercise time
  • The end of the exercise time and start of rest time is signaled by a verbal “Brake Time”
  • The end of a workout is signal by a round of applause (which you deserve!)
Using the voice setting allows you to go through the workout without looking at the screen of your device. You can also change the sound setting to “Beep.” This setting uses beeps to guide you through your workout. Each beep is different meaning the beep signaling the start of a exercise is different then the beep used to signal 10 seconds left in the exercise. Finally, you can set the sound to off and the app will not make any audible sounds. The app also has a “Vibrate” setting. With Vibrate set to “ON” transitions during the workout are signaled with a vibrate.
If during the workout, for whatever reason, you want to skip the current exercise just press the “Skip This One” button and the proprietary algorithm will grab another exercise for you and restart the exercise timer. You can also skip the current exercise by shaking your iPhone / iPod / iPad. The shake setting can be turned on or off in the “K Abs I Settings” view. To restart a workout from the beginning press the “Restart” button and the exact same workout will start again. If you need to pause your workout for whatever reason press the “Pause” button which is what the “Start” button becomes after the workout begins. If you are unsure of exactly how to do an exercise in your workout at any time press the “Pause and Get Info” button. This will pause the workout and take you to that exercise's support web page for expert instructions and a video on that exercise. To exit the Workout view at anytime just press “Finished / Go Back” button and you will be taken back to the Main Workout view. If you exit the Workout view before a workout is finished that workout will not be saved and displayed in the Record view.
